Illinois Club Pig Association By-laws

Revised 7/28/09

Mission Statement:
To award Illinois youth for their participation and success in the statewide exhibition of swine projects,
while helping promote a fun and honest atmosphere at participating swine events. To encourage the youth of
Illinois to more eagerly participate in swine events and to provide educational and skill-building opportunities to
enhance the knowledge of Illinois youth about the purebred, showpig, and commercial segments of the swine
industry.

The following rules are provided for the 2010 ICPA show season.

All updates for the 2010 season are in blue. Please read entire by-laws carefully.
I. Organization
  a. The ICPA is a summer showpig circuit that consists of sanctioned shows and youth activities.
  b. The at large representatives will serve as the official record keepers.
  c. The show season will take place from May-August, followed by an awards ceremony immediately after the junior barrow show at the Illinois State Fair.
  d. www.illinoisshowpigs.com is the official website of the ICPA.
II. Eligibility and Membership
  a. Membership is open to Illinois Youth ages 5-21 as of January 1st of the current year.
  b. An annual $25 membership fee or a $125 lifetime membership fee will be assessed to become a member of the ICPA. In addition, all paid ICPA members will receive a t-shirt as a part of their membership.
  c. All exhibitors are expected to honor the rules of the show in which they are participating. If there is an instance where rules may have been broken, a grievance may be filed. Please see section “V”.
  d. Members must be signed up and paid before the beginning of the most current show. *Points will not be accumulated until membership dues are paid and the member is in good standing with the ICPA.
  e. Cleared payments for ICPA memberships and show entries are required to be eligible for prizes at the awards ceremony. Failure to be in good standing with the membership committee or any show coordinator will eliminate exhibitors’ opportunity to receive awards.
  f. After completion of shows, it is encouraged to visit with the official judge, thanking him/her for their time and working with our exhibitors. However, if the show coordinator feels there is malicious intent to conversation, or it is held in an inebriated state, results can be subject to loss of winnings, loss of points for particular show, or elimination from said show in the future.
III. Sanctioned Shows
  a. The ICPA is responsible for the management of the sanctioned show series. All ICPA sanctioned events will follow the guidelines as closely as possible set forth by the ICPA board to create a higher level of consistency throughout the show season. There will be a show coordinator at each show responsible for the well being of stated rules and is responsible for upholding the guidelines set for their particular show.
  b. Shows will be held on 7 weekends from May to the end of July.
  c. All ICPA sanctioned shows will have:
    I. Classes for purebred and crossbred market barrows.
II. Classes for purebred gilts shown by age and crossbred breeding gilts shown by weight.
  d. We will have showmanship classes at a minimum of 7 shows, one per weekend. The shows that are to hold showmanship will be decided at a later date and will be posted on individual show flyers.
The four levels of showmanship include:
Novice: 5 - 8, Junior: 9 - 12, Intermediate: 13 - 16, and Senior: 17 - 21.
    I. In showmanship classes, the exhibitors must exhibit their own hogs or the hog of an immediate family member.
  e. ICPA members will be allowed to count top points from 9 of the 13 scheduled shows for the 2010 Season. If more than 9 shows are attended, points from the 9 shows in which earned points are the highest will be counted.
  f. All hogs must be farrowed December 1st and after. December hogs will only be allowed to show and earn points at the first 8 shows of the ICPA show season.
  g. Class breaks will be determined under the judgment of the official show coordinator and his/her committee.
  h. All purebred gilts and barrows must meet the guidelines set forth by the NSR and CPS.
  i. All shows will have 2 options for weighing barrows and crossbred gilts. Option 1: The show coordinator will weigh pigs during the morning of the show. Hogs will not be allowed to weigh the night before. This does not require a weigh back of the top 2 placing pigs during exhibition. Option 2: Exhibitors will declare the weight at which they would like to show their pig, and a mandatory weigh back of the first 2 placing pigs in class will be enforced. The weigh back will be 10 pounds at all May and June shows and 13 pounds at shows in July.
  j. Pigs must be entered in the name of the ICPA member that wishes to accumulate points from the exhibition of that animal.
  k. All hogs being used to accumulate points at ICPA sanctioned events must be owned by and in the possession of the exhibitor and/or family no later than May 1st of the current show season.
  l. ICPA members are expected to exhibit their own pigs. In the event that an ICPA member is unable to exhibit their own animal, substitutes may be used if the substitute is an official ICPA member.
  m. An ICPA member may only use qualified substitute showman at a maximum of two shows during the ICPA show season. If a substitute showman is needed, a substitution sheet must be filled out and emailed to kane.causemaker@kentfeeds.com prior to the show that will be unattended by exhibitor in question. This is also mandatory if siblings are to be used as the show substitute. The substitution sheet can be found on the ICPA websites’ homepage.
  n. In the case of an exhibitor having two animals showing simultaneously, he/she may secure the aid of another ICPA member to show in their place. A substitution sheet is not required, but the matter must be brought to the show coordinators’ attention.
  o. Sanctioned shows will allow hogs in the night before the show and may be released after the conclusion of the show.
  p. All shows must submit a finalized list of class placings and champions within 3 business days of the conclusion of the show. E-mail them to gstrom2@winco.net
  q. Entries must be available the day of the show.
  r. Pigs may only be entered in one class per show.
  s. All animals entered in purebred classes are required to have registration papers.
  t. All animals are required to have health papers at the time of show registration.
  u. The ICPA requires that each show must allow an Official ICPA booth at their show.
  v. The ICPA is not responsible for accidents.
IV. Points System
  a. Points will be accumulated for members in each of the following breeds for both market barrows and breeding gilts for the ICPA show season: Berkshire, Chester White, Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace, Poland China, Spotted, Yorkshire, and Crossbred. In the event that breeds are combined into one class, each pig will receive points based on actual placing towards the breed of that specific pig.
  b. Only the points from the top two pigs that an individual exhibits at each show in each sex (maximum 2 barrows and 2 gilts) will count toward an individual’s total points. Only one animal per breed/sex can accumulate points for the member. Example: an exhibitor can not receive points for two Duroc barrows. To receive points for two barrows or gilts, the member must exhibit two separate breeds.
  c. There is no limit to the number of breeds that a member can enter at each show, but you can only earn points for two breeds per sex at each show. It is possible to use points earned from more than two breeds to achieve a members overall points total. Example: an exhibitor may use points for Hampshire and Spot gilts at one show and points for Duroc and Crossbred gilts at another show to achieve an overall points total.
  d. The ICPA will award five points towards showmanship for members that attend educational events and clinics that may or may not be held at every sanctioned show. Such events will be advertised ahead of the show.
  e. Points will be awarded for the exhibition in classes as follows:
    I. 1st-6 x # of head in class
II. 2nd-5 x # of head in class
III. 3rd-4 x # of head in class
IV. 4th-3 x # of head in class
    V. 5th-2 x # of head in class
    VI. 6th and below-5 points
  f. In the event that more than 10 pigs are exhibited in one class, points will be calculated based on a class of 10 pigs.
  g. Breed Champion’s Points will be awarded as follows:
    I. Champion-15 points
    II. Res. Champion-10 points
  h. Overall Champion’s Points will be awarded as follows:
    I. Grand Champion-10 points
    II. Res. Grand Champion-5 points
  i. Champions & Reserve Champions overall and within respective breeds must be the two hogs receiving the most points within their respective categories. Champions must outscore Reserve Champions by minimum 5 points. Likewise, Reserve Champions must outscore other entries in their respective categories by minimum 5 points. If this does not happen, the Champions and Reserve Champions will be awarded additional points to satisfy this criteria.
  j. A maximum of 5 showmanships will count towards an individual’s total showmanship points.
  k. Showmanship points will be awarded for top places as follows:
    I. 1st-10 points
    II. 2nd-9 points
    III. 3rd-8 points
    IV. 4th-7 points
    V. 5th-6 points
    VI. 6th and below-5 points
V. Grievances
  a. Throughout the show season, problems may arise that go undetected the day of the show. You have an opportunity to file a grievance of any incident in question within 48 hours.
  b. A grievance form is on the homepage of the ICPA website. It must be sent to kane.causemaker@kentfeeds.com. The ICPA board will then discuss said incident and come up with a ruling within the next 48 hours.
  c. All grievances will be held to the highest degree of confidentiality and filers will remain anonymous.
  d. We have created this to reduce the static within our organization. Please help us run a clean, fun and ethically sound organization.
VI. Prizes and Awards
  a. Prizes are solely dependent upon funding.
  b. Prizes will be awarded for top finishers in each of the following categories:
    I. Showmanship (combination of showmanship and educational points)-Prizes to be awarded to top five finishers in each age division. Tie breaks will be decided by number of 1st, then number of 2nd, and so forth until the tie is broken.
II. Barrows and Gilts by Breed-Prizes to be awarded to top five finishers in each breed for both market barrows and breeding gilts. In the crossbred divisions, the top ten will be awarded. Showmanship and educational points will be used to determine tie-breaks.
III. Overall Exhibitors-Prizes to be awarded to top ten exhibitors in both overall barrow and gilt categories. Showmanship and educational points will be used to determine tiebreaks.
  c. Barrows, gilts, and showmanship are all separate categories and points for each will not be combined at any time.
  d. To be eligible for top awards in breeds or overall gilt/barrow, the ICPA member must participate in that category at least 4 times during the show circuit. Example 1: To be eligible for top awards in Chester Barrows, the exhibitor must have shown a Chester barrow at 4 sanctioned shows or more. Example 2: If an exhibitor shows at 8 shows but only shows a Hampshire Gilt at 3 shows, he/she will not be eligible for top Hampshire Gilt awards. However, those Hampshire Gilt points may still count towards an exhibitor’s total points.
  e. In the Event that the Champion Overall Gilt Exhibitor and Champion Overall Barrow Exhibitor is the same person or are members of the same immediate family, the member or family will receive one overall prize and the other overall prize will be awarded to the reserve exhibitor. For example: If this event occurs and the member/family has 500 total barrow points and 450 total gilt points, they will be awarded the champion overall barrow prize and the overall gilt prizes will be awarded to the reserve gilt exhibitor and the reserve prizes will be awarded to the 3rd place gilt exhibitor and so forth. This same rule applies if the same member/family wins both Reserve Overall prizes as well.

All Rules are subject to the discretion of the ICPA at Large Committee and are subject to change!
